Anne Thomas "Tommy" Gabard

January 21, 1924 — February 1, 2018

Mrs. Anne Thomas “Tommy” Turner Gabard, age 94, of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, went to be with Jesus in Heaven on Thursday evening, February 1, 2018 in Lewisburg, Tennessee. Mrs. Gabard was born in Lewisburg, Tennessee and was a daughter of the late Thomas Roy and Willie Roberts Turner. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Joe” Charles Gabard, Sr., granddaughter, Mallory Cruz and sister, Marietta “Sis” Turner Junge.

Mrs. “Tommy” was employed with First State Bank of Chapel Hill for over 30 years and later served as branch manager for First Farmers and Merchants Bank in Chapel Hill, a position she held until her retirement. She was a long time member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and held many different leadership positions over the 70 years of her church membership. Mrs. “Tommy” was also a charter member of the Chapel Hill Business and Professional Women’s organization, an original member and served, for many years, in the capacity of Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Swanson Cemetery, a member of the Marshall County Historical Society, United Methodist Women, and served as a volunteer at Marshall Medical Center in Lewisburg for 20 years.

Mrs. Gabard is survived by her children, Mary Anne (Mike) Schmidt, Houston, TX; son, Joseph (Cindy) Gabard, Chapel Hill, TN; grandchildren, Chris Schmidt, Nick Schmidt, Meredith Douglas; great grandchildren, William Schmidt, Lilian Cruz.

Family members will receive friends on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. David Johnson and Rev. Jimmy Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.

Mike Schmidt, Kyle Cruz, Jimmy Rickman, Bill Piper, Dean Delk, Danny Blalock and Billy Johns will serve as active pallbearers. Members of Phebean Foundation Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
