Barbara Brown Smith, 75, of Nashville passed away on December 1, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Sr. and AT Perryman Brown; husband, Billy Hall Smith, Jr. and brother, Oliver (Nancy) Brown, Jr. She is survived by two children, Billy Hall (Jessie) Smith III of Collierville, TN and Raegin (Nat) Martin of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, Hall Smith, Ruth Anne Smith, Lucy Jane Smith, and Sloane Martin. Besides her sister, Brenda Calvert of Rover, TN, Barbara was beloved by her sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was born on October 8, 1949 in Marshall County, Tennessee where she graduated from Forrest School in 1967. She pursued a degree in education from MTSU and Athens State University after which she enjoyed a 30-year career as an esteemed educator. She adored all of the children who passed through her classroom. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering as a tutor and packing food for her school’s backpack program. Her grandchildren were dearest to her heart, so she and Bill moved to MS during the latter part of their lives to be closer to them. Barbara cherished her church communities and was an active member of Olivet Church in Pulaski and later the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Olive Branch, MS. She enjoyed family pets and watching the wildlife around her. Barbara always had a special musical talent through her voice and playing piano. Barbara will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, whose kind heart and thoughtfulness will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A graveside service is planned for Barbara at 11am on Friday December 13, 2024 at Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski, TN, at which her husband Bill’s ashes will also be interred. An additional interment will take place at Swanson Cemetery, Chapel Hill, TN at a later date.
