Calvin James Smith

Mr. Calvin James Smith, age 71, of Rockvale, TN, died Thursday, July 14, 2022 in Franklin, TN.  He was born in Iowa City, Iowa and grew up in Maize, Kansas.  Mr. Smith was a son of the late Omer Jay Smith and Bessie Belle Stockton Smith.  Calvin was retired from working as a carpenter and cabinetry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Kay Smith in 2001, a sister, Martha Roush, and a great granddaughter, Kortlynn Hargrove.

Calvin was a “Jack of ALL Trades”.  He loved classic cars and old music.  He had a passion for the outdoors, especially his rock garden.

Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Ruth Smith of Rockvale, TN; children, Jacqueline Jean (James) Johnson of Kansas City, MO, Toby Allan Smith of Wichita, KS, Cynthia Lynn (David) Hackert of Centerville, TN; 7 grandchildren, Jessica & Christopher Johnson, Ashley & Allan Smith, Brittany (Hannah) Hargrove, Destiny (Caleb) Hargrove, Stephanie Hargrove; 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice (Mark) Thompson of Chicago, IL, Susan Smith (Rex Landrum) of Wichita, KS.

Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 4 pm until 8 pm at Lawrence Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be conducted at 10 am on Friday, July 22, 2022 from the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Jim Taylor officiating.  Interment will follow in Cothran Cemetery in the Rover Community of Bedford County.

Rex Landrum, Wesley Adams, Kenneth Smith, Ronnie Sweeney, Daniel Beard, and David Clegg will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Garner, Robert M. Ryan, and Paul Corley.
