Captain Phil Blackwell, age 76, of the Verona Community in Marshall County, TN, died Saturday, December 17, 2022 in Franklin, TN. He was born in Marshall County, TN and was a son of the late Ralph Jewell Blackwell and Ruth Phillips Blackwell. Phil was a graduate of Marshall County High School and proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was a retired Captain of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Dept. where he worked for 34 years and from the Marshall County School System where he drove a school bus for over 27 years. He was a member of Farmington United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Billy Blackwell, and a sister, Betty Welch, and a brother-in-law, Jim Welch.
Phil loved watching his grandson play football, watching western movies, and watching the UT Vols play sports. He enjoyed watching hummingbirds and he had a passion for picking on and teasing others.
Mr. Blackwell is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mrs. Gale Blackwell of the Verona Community; children, Wayne Blackwell of the Verona Community and Tabatha Blackwell of Lebanon, TN; grandson, Adam Blackwell; brother, Tommy Blackwell of Fayetteville, TN; sister, Becky Kimbrough of Murfreesboro, TN; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Leland Carden and Rev. Robert Mount officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Palmetto Cemetery in the Farmington Community.
Active pallbearers will be Norman Dalton, Justin Christmas, John Christmas, Adam Blackwell, Tony Nichols, and Steve Woodward. Honorary pallbearers will be the Marshall County Sheriff’s Dept., Lewisburg Police Dept., Tennessee Highway Patrol, and friends of the Emergency Services.
For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital or Monroe Carroll Children’s Hospital.
