Mrs. Clara Harber Hill, age 93, died Saturday, February 12, 2022 at her home in Chapel Hill after an extended illness.
Mrs. Hill was a native of Marshall County but lived much of her life in Williamson County. She was a daughter of the late William Jefferson and Lillie Pearl Glasscock Harber. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ernest W. Hill, Sr., who died in 1996; a son E.W. Hill, who died in 2021; and sisters, Elizabeth Harber Powell and Katie Harber Cathey.
After a brief time working in the public sector, Mrs. Clara spent forty plus years doing the work she loved most, working in the fields of the family farm in Southeast Williamson County. She was held in high regards by her neighbors for her skills and speed working in the tobacco crops and raising beef cattle.
Ever since 1963, when the family moved to Williamson County, Mrs. Hill was a faithful member and servant at Riggs Cross Roads Church of Christ. After the death of her husband, Ernest, she spent many happy hours with friends at the College Grove Senior Citizens Center.
Most of all, she loved her family and taking care of them brought her the most joy. Sitting down was not easy for “Granny Clara” as age took her abilities to care for herself and had to allow others to care for her.
Mrs. Hill is survived by her daughter, Wanda Jean Collins, Chapel Hill, TN; granddaughter, Emily Blackwell Ferguson, College Grove, TN; grandson, Ernie (Danielle) Hill, Chapel Hill, TN; great grandchildren, Alec Ferguson, Lilli Ferguson and Caroline Fowler; one niece; four nephews; and many others that called her “Granny Clara”.
Family members will receive friends on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Russell Wyatt officiating. Burial, with Michael Williams officiating, will follow at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
Danny Powell, Larry Powell, Rick Powell, Bill Haynes, Tommy Warden and Ernie Hill will serve as pallbearers.
Family members would like to extend a special thanks to Hope Well Care Services of Shelbyville and Caris Healthcare of Columbia and the angels they provided in Angela Bedwell and Angela Taylor.
