Don DeWayne “Pops” Hancock, 86, went to be with the Lord on November 14th, 2024.
Proceeding him in death was his wife of 50 years, Wilma Ann Eaves Hancock.
Don is survived by his son, Steven Hancock, daughter and son-in-law, DeAnn and Drew Clum, his grandchildren Brittany Hancock and her son, Jackson, Dace Clum and his wife Julia. He is also survived by his brother Paul (Beth) Hancock, sister Patsy Wilson and many nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful for the compassion, kindness, care, and love given to Don in his sunset years by his significant other, Betty Anne Roberts. He was a member of Triune Community Church in Triune, Tennessee.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Rola Ray and Ina Lee Hines Hancock, his brother Ray Hancock, his sister Nancy Hancock Hogan and her husband, Bill Hogan.
Don was awarded Honorable Discharge by certificate upon his discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States of America on July 31st, 1965.
Don was born on April 13, 1938, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was raised in the East Brainerd community of Chattanooga where he was an All-State lineman and kicker for Tyner High School. Don moved his family to Nashville in 1968 when he took a position with Avco (which later became Textron). He had a long and productive career in aeronautics and aerospace as a design engineer. He was a major contributor to many large-scale military projects over the years such as the C-130, C-5, and the B-1, as well as several commercial projects such as the L-1011.
Many young boys were influenced by Don as their football coach including his son and grandson. He was an avid car enthusiast and could easily identify year, make and model. His love, wit and humor will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of life service will be held 3:00PM Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024 at Lawrence Funeral Home, Anita Pringle will be officiating with visitation being held two hours prior.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Triune Community Church, 7906 Nolensville Rd. Arrington, TN 37014
