Doris "Nell" McKnight Cromer Collick, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home in East Jordan, Michigan on June 13, 2014.
Nell was the fifth of eight daughters born to Andrew and Sadie McKnight of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents and four of her sisters (Andrea, Kate, Dot and Deany. She was also preceded by her husband of 38 years, Richard (Buck) Cromer of Chapel Hill, Tennessee; as well as her second husband of 16 years Raymond Collick of Carmel, Indiana.
Nell is survived by her two daughters, Pam Draves (Bob) of East Jordan, Michigan and Patty Ginnard (Tommy) of New Orleans, Louisiana. Her expanded family includes Ray's two children, Dan Collick (JoDee) and Carolyn LeClaire (Gary) plus two grandchildren and four great grandchildren; exchange students Renata de Silva Prado Cook of São Paulo, Brazil; and Paula Urrila Montin of Turku, Finland. She is also survived by three of her sisters, Frances (Billy) Powell of Opeleika, Alabama, Helen (Robert) Underwood of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Nancy (Glynn) Craddock of Mobile, Alabama. Plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Nell was a graduate of Central High and a member of East Main Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, Tn. In St. Clair Shores where she and Buck raised their daughters, she was an active member of Lakeshore Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star Jefferson Lodge #489. She was a Parent Supporter of the foreign exchange club. In Carmel, IN., she was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church where she became involved in a mission which distributed bibles printed in Braille. Nell's additional hobbies included gardening, reading , cooking, visiting with with widely scattered family and friends.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to the team from Hospice of Northern Michigan, especially Cindy and Jill, who provided professional care with respect at a difficult time; allowing for maximum comfort and dignity.
Family members will receive friends on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:00 am at Cromer – Blackwell Cemetery near Chapel Hill with Rev. Joe Wiggins officiating. Internment will follow at the Cromer - Blackwell family cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Michigan or a charity of your choice.
