Mr. Earl Lemuel Manier, age 95, of the Bunker Hill community of Bedford County, died Tuesday evening, August 13, 2013 at his home after an extended illness. Mr. Manier was born in Bedford County and was a son of the late John Henry and Willie Mai Wright Manire. He retired from the United States Army combat infantry after serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, for wounds received in the Battle of the Bulge. For a period of time, he was listed as MIA during the Korean Conflict when China invaded Korea. Mr. Manier also retired from Cummings Sign Company of Murfreesboro, TN and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Rover Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Manier, who died in 2009, a son, Paige Manier, sister, Sara Manire Smith, and brothers, Malcolm, Marcus and William Manire.
Mr. Manier is survived by sons, Tommy (Becky) Dean, Mobile, AL, Earl Reed (Sandy) Manier, Sr. and Wade Manier, both of the Bunker Hill Comm.; daughter in law, Elizabeth Manier, Bunker Hill Comm.; sister, Johnnie Mai Manire, Columbia, TN; brothers, Austin “Doc” Manire, Chapel Hill, TN, Jimmy Manire and Herbert Manire, both of Columbia, TN, Harold Manire, California; grandchildren, Amy Lattanzi, Jared Dean, Amanda McKoon, Earl Manier, Jr., Nickie Manier; great grandchildren, Peyton Dean, Emily and Anna Lattanzi, Ashton Pelletier, Dylan McKoon.
Family members will receive friends on Saturday, August 24, 2013 form 9:00 am until 12:00 noon at Lawrence Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors will be conducted at 12:00 noon from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. David Wall officiating.
