Mr. Edmond Rice Phifer, Jr., age 85, of the Laws Hill Community of Marshall County, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 in Columbia, Tennessee. Mr. Phifer was born in Marshall County and was a son of the late Mildred Cathey Davis Phifer and Edmond Rice Phifer, Sr. He was formerly employed with Cartwright Concrete Company of Shelbyville and was a life long farmer. Mr. Phifer was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evie Lee Holden Phifer, who died in April of 2012, a son, Warren Phifer, sister, Lillian Hardison and a brother, Adrian Davis Phifer.
Mr. Phifer is survived by sons, Mark Phifer, Laws Hill Comm., Wendell (Molly) Phifer, Chapel Hill, TN, Darrell Lewis Phifer, Laws Hill Comm.; sisters, Elizabeth (James) Foster, Lewisburg, TN, Betty (Larry) Clay, Fayetteville, TN, Sue (Gus) Harwell, Murfreesboro, TN, Dot (Hollis) Parsons, Lewisburg, TN, Linda (Doug) Shaddy, Belfast, TN; brothers, Calvin (Edna) Phifer, Nashville, TN, Butch (Sue) Phifer, Elkton, AL, Bill (Fay) Phifer, Laws Hill Comm., Jack (Pat) Phifer, Lewisburg, TN; two grandchildren, Derrick and Colton Phifer.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Chatman officiating. Burial will follow in Hopper Cemetery near Chapel Hill.
In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Chapel Hill Elementary School, Library Fund, 415 South Horton Parkway, Chapel Hill, TN 37034.
Colton Phifer, Derrick Phifer, Robert Hopkins, Eddie Hunter, Richard Hopkins, Neeley Hopkins, Timmy Ashworth, Ronnie Ashworth will serve as active pallbearers. J.W. Nickens and Bill Britton will serve as honorary pallbearers.
