Elaine Comstock passed away early Sunday morning, January 5, 2020 at the age of 93. She was a lifelong resident of Chapel Hill, Tennessee. At the time of her death she was under the care of Clarendale at Indian Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Elaine was the widow of James Bruce Comstock, who died in 1983, and the daughter of the late Reverend Samuel and Ruth Raby Gentry of Bedford County.
Elaine cherished her roles as wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker and excelled in all. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Her passion was crafting -- making many beautiful Christmas and seasonal items that are still enjoyed and displayed in many homes throughout the area. She enjoyed cooking, specializing in carrot cakes and coconut cakes, with her brownies being her signature dish -- always a favorite at church gatherings. She will be missed by all who knew her and will be remembered as a good and loving mother and friend. We will miss her sense of humor and her kind and gentle spirit that was an inspiration to us all.
She is survived by her two children Patty Smith (and her husband Geoff) of Gallatin and her son Phil (and his wife Suzie) of Chapel Hill; two grandchildren Kristen Rice (and her husband Brian) of Brentwood and Owen Comstock (and his wife Rashi Joshi) of Washington, D.C.; and one great grandson Brooks Thomas Rice, 4, of Brentwood. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Donald Comstock (and his wife Faye) of Brentwood. She was preceded in death by her three brothers Fred, Finis, and Elan.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the extraordinary staffs of Clarendale at Indian Lake and Caris Hospice. Thanks to you for making our journey easier.
