ELLA TAYLOR MOORE, age 107, was born in Rover, Bedford County, Tennessee on March 27, 1906, to the late James Thomas and Susie Lou Davis Taylor. She died January 4, 2014 at her home in Nashville.
Ella grew up in Rover and graduated from Rover High School. She traveled throughout the UnitedStates and Canada with her first husband’s employment, and attended LaFayette College in Indiana when she was in her 50’s. Ella was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Rover.
She maintained close contact with her many relatives in Tennessee and routinely returned to Tennessee for reunions with family and friends. In later life she continued her travels, mainly on cruise ships. She celebrated her 100th birthday on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. Her favorite cruise was to Alaska. She frequented the Fifty Forward Activity Center with her sister Ruth where she was a competitive card and bingo enthusiast. Ella and Ruth were featured at the Fifty Forward Center by The Tennessean in December 2013. She enjoyed decorating her home at Christmas in red, her favorite color.
Ella is survived by her sister Ruth Taylor Fite, Hermitage, nieces Gladys Trout, Mary Ellen Loyd, Bithie Sue King (William), Suzanne Vaden (Jim), Linda Bradshaw, & Dinah Knowlton, and nephews Jimmie Taylor (Annette), Garie Taylor, Royce Taylor (Susan), Jim (Billy) Fite, Paul Wain Fite, and Jackie Taylor (Diane).
She was predeceased by husbands Charles McCracken, Smith Tomlin and Ivan Moore, brothers Ira Taylor, Jim W. Taylor, Fred Taylor, John Holland Taylor, Willie Taylor and Gene Taylor, sisters Allie Pearl Taylor, Lizzie Stem, and Mary Glen Taylor, nephew John Thomas Taylor, and niece Ruby Stem Lamb.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 4432 Hwy. 41-A North, Rover, on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Garie Taylor officiating. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home, Chapel Hill, and from noon until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service. Burial will follow in Simpson Cemetery in the Rover Community.
Active pallbearers will be Paul Fite, Jim Fite, Royce Taylor, Jimmie Taylor, Jim Vaden, Jackie Taylor, Mike Russell, and Chuck Paetz. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Knois, Tommy Lamb and William King.
