Mr. Ernest Wortham “E. W.” Hill, Jr., died Monday, February 08, 2021 at his home in the Caney Spring Community of Chapel Hill. He was born on June 27, 1954 in Lewisburg, Tennessee to Clara Harber Hill and the late Ernest Wortham Hill, Sr. He was a graduate of the Class of 1972 at Eagleville High School.
E.W. retired in January of 2020 from Volunteer Materials, where he had worked many years and served as office manager and rock salesman. He was serving his fourth term as a Commissioner of the 2nd District for the Marshall County Board of Commissioners. E.W. was a 3rd degree Mason and a member of Riggs Church of Christ. As an avid walker for over 20 years, E.W. completed the St. Jude Music City ½ Marathon every year since 2010.
E. W. was a loving husband, son, father and stepfather. He had a compassion for people and enjoyed picking at people and bragging on the little ones. He never met a stranger nor forgot a face. He was known for his quick wit, his extension of friendships and his compassionate spirit. But, the thing E. W. was well known for was letting you know he was “a life long, avid Alabama Football Fan”.
Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of 16 years, Debbie Sanders Hill, Chapel Hill, TN; son, Ernest W. (Danielle) Hill, III, Chapel Hill, TN; mother, Clara Harber Hill, Chapel Hill, TN; sister, Wanda Collins, Chapel Hill, TN; step-daughters, Jessica (Chad) Carnahan, Castillian Springs, TN, Stephanie (Alex) Frederick, Smyrna, TN, Lindsey (Ja) Vallejo, Chapel Hill, TN; niece, Emily (Pete) Ferguson, Allisona Community of Williamson Co.; great niece, Lilli Ferguson; nine step-grandchildren; several cousins.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill with Russell Wyatt officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Swanson Cemetery.
For those who wish, the family of E.W. will depart the funeral home at approximately 1:45 pm on Wednesday, pass north thru Chapel Hill, turning right onto Chapel Hill - Unionville Road and again right at the Forrest High School football field entrance, passing by the football stadium to Spring Creek Street and then left onto Morningside Drive into Swanson Cemetery. Anyone who wishes is welcome to be alongside this route as the procession passes by and is free to join in as they proceed to the cemetery.
Ricky Powell, Larry Powell, Danny Powell, Bill Haynes, Tommy Warden, Embree Blackwell, Jr., Jeff Shires and Corbin Powell will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Marshall County Board of Commissioners and Employees of Volunteer Materials.
In light of the present health crisis, there will be no public visitation prior to graveside services. Everyone is welcome for the graveside services but family members request that mask be worn and social distancing guidelines be followed.
