Gene Clifton, Sr.

Mr. Gene Dale Clifton, Sr., age 81, of the Mt. Vernon Community of Rutherford County, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Smyrna, Tennessee. Mr. Clifton was born in Owenton, Kentucky and was a son of the late Floyd and Betty Osbourne Clifton. He was retired from the United States Air Force as a Technical Sergeant after 23 years of service to our Country. He was also a former employee of the United States Postal Service. Mr. Clifton was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Murfreesboro Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by brothers, Walter Clifton and Burnis Clifton; sisters, Margaret McClung, Rena Harris; son-in-law, Hoyte Smith and grandson, Danny Ray Smith.

Mr. Clifton is survived by his wife, Alene Scott Clifton, Mt. Vernon Comm.; daughter, Penny Clifton, Nashville, TN; son Gene Clifton, Jr., Plattsmouth, NE; step-daughter, Sherrylynne Prosnick Smith, Rockvale, TN; brother, Bobby Clifton, Orrville, CA; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Family members will receive friends on Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Crosslin officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Bennett Cemetery in the Mt. Vernon Community of Rutherford County.
