Mr. Gene Shires, age 85, of the Caney Spring Community of Marshall County, died Sunday, December 14, 2014 in Lewisburg, Tennessee.  Mr. Shires was born in Marshall County and was a son of the late Paul Jones and Elizabeth Harris Shires.  He was a graduate of Forrest School in Chapel Hill, attended the University of Tennessee and served his Country as a member of the Tennessee National Guard.  Mr. Shires was a life long dairy farmer.  He served as an Elder and was a life long member of the Chapel Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Shires is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Elrod Shires, Caney Spring Comm.; son, Jeff (Dru) Shires, Unionville, TN; cousin, Moiselle Peay, Nashville, TN; grandsons, Daniel (Melanie) Lambert, Unionville, TN, Rev. Dustin (Jenifer) Lambert, Cordova, TN; great grandchildren, Michael, Chase and Melissa Lambert and Elsie, Sylvia and Sydney Lambert.

Family members will receive friends on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Dustin Lambert and Rev. Joe Wiggins officiating.  Burial will follow in Allen Cemetery in the Caney Spring Community.

Daniel Lambert, Dustin Lambert, E. W. Hill, Eddy  Harber, Jerry Harber, Brent Johns and Brian Johns will serve as pallbearers.
