Mr. James Milton “Jim” Majors, age 78, of Tullahoma, formerly of Manchester, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2015 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro surrounded by his loving family. A native of Union City, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Frances and Lucian Anderson Major. He was a mechanical engineering graduate of UT Knoxville, with graduate work at UTSI. Mr. Major retired from Sverdrup, Inc. in 1996 and served as a Manchester Alderman and Coffee County Commissioner. He was an Eagle Scout and served as a leader of his son’s troop in Manchester. Mr. Major was an avid and accomplished engineer and golfer. He volunteered frequently with Habitat for Humanity and The Good Samaritan. Mr. Major was a member and elder of Manchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church as well as of the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers. In addition to his parents, Mr. Major was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Lucian Major.

Mr. Major is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Johns Rickman Major; daughter, Kathy Sluga and her husband, Leo, of Greenville, South Carolina; son, Jimmy Major and his wife, Beth, of Canton, Georgia; and grandchildren, Robert and Matthew Sluga, and Carly and Colin Major.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Barron officiating. A graveside service will take place following the service at 2:30 pm at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill, Tennessee.

Members of the Fidelis Sunday School Class of the Manchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church will be serving as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Manchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 838 McArthur Street, Manchester, Tennessee 37355 or to the Good Samaritan of Manchester, 1844 McArthur Street, Manchester, Tennessee 37355.
