Mrs. Jeannie Mathis, age 72, of Cornersville, Tennessee, died Saturday, September 14, 2019 in Franklin, Tennessee. Mrs. Mathis was born in Wadesboro, Louisiana and was a daughter of the late Floyd Lee and Iris Grace Freeman McLain. She was a homemaker, a retired teacher and a member of Miracle Tabernacle Church in Shelbyville, Tennessee. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jeannie was preceded in death by her husband, “Country” Johnny Mathis, Sr., who died in 2011, a sister, Wanda Stout and grandchildren, Kayla Mathis and Ira Tate.
Mrs. Mathis is survived by her sons, John (Angie) Mathis, Jr. Spring Hill, TN, Bill Mathis, Spring Hill, TN, James (Teresa) Mathis, Cornersville, TN; step-daughter, Sherry Craver, Marshall, TX; sister, Carolyn (Shelby) Achord, Walker, LA; brothers, Floyd McLain, Jr., Denham Springs, LA, Kenneth (Kelly) McLain, Gonzalez, LA; 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Family members will receive friends on Monday, September 16, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with burial to follow in Beechwood Cemetery in Cornersville, TN.
Sons and Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
