Mr. Leslie Thomas “Tommy” Riggs, age 78, of the Holts Corner Community of Marshall County, died Monday, May 15, 2017 in Lewisburg, Tennessee. Mr. Riggs was born in Marshall County and was a son of the late Aaron Gambill and Ollie Mae Cathey Riggs. He was a graduate of Forrest High School Class of 1957. Mr. Riggs retired after serving 20 years in the United States Navy. During his time serving his country, he was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis. He also served on the USS Ranger and the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam era. After his retirement from the United States Navy, he returned home and started another career with Bridgestone Tire and Rubber Company, from which he again retired after 20 years of service. Mr. Riggs was a member of Riggs Church of Christ where he faithfully served as a deacon. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters, Kathy Trout, Nancy Wilson; brothers, Bobby Ray Riggs and David Earl Riggs.
Mr. Riggs is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lynda Emerson Riggs, Holts Corner Comm.; daughter, Vicki Lynn (David) Bradfield, Knoxville, TN; son, Kenneth Ray Riggs, Holts Corner Comm.; granddaughter, Abigail Lauren Bradfield; grandson, Matthew Allen Bradfield.
Family members will receive friends on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Russell Wyatt officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Riggs Cemetery in Holts Corner. .
