Lillian Jean Thompson, 79, of Columbia, Tennessee passed away in the late evening of Thursday, March 2, 2023, at home holding her daughter’s hand, due to complications from COPD. We remain in awe of her continued positivity and exuberance for life, even when things got difficult. Her bright smile and sweet personality will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Lillian was born on June 8, 1943 in Paterson, New Jersey to Amy Gertrude Thompson. Lillian’s mother passed when she was just a year old and she was raised by her grandmother, Susie Slocum and uncle, George Burdick, both of whom predeceased her. Lillian’s father was unknown until 2018 when it was discovered through DNA testing that she is a match to the Weitsman Family of Owego, NY.
Lillian was a graduate of Owego Free Academy Class of 1961. She was employed at IBM, Owego where she retired after 30 years of service. Lillian enjoyed bowling, crocheting, playing cards and scratch off lottery tickets. She always wanted to win big in the hopes she could have a little something to leave her children. What she didn’t realize was that she is the grand prize, and nothing could surpass the strength, the loyalty, the kindness, the gentleness and unconditional love that she gave every single day.
Lillian will be forever missed by her children: Robert (Marge) Horton, Mechanicsville, VA; Michael (Laurie) Horton, Marathon, NY and, Michelle (Jon) White, Columbia, TN; her grandchildren, Kailey Horton, Kaleb Horton, Lindsey Horton, Kyle Horton, Amanda Horton, Jacki Rose, Trevor (Cayla) White and Tanner (Alexandria) White; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins; and, special friends, Jean Brown, predeceased and, Anni Callaghan.
Lillian expressed her desire to be cremated and that no service will be held.
