Logan Ashley Smith

Logan Ashley Smith, age 49, of Lewisburg, TN, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife, Rebecca Redmond Smith at his side, July 15, 2023. As he passed on from this world through the pearly gates, the clouds outside parted and the sun shone brightly.

Logan was born in 1974 in Akron, Iowa and spent his early years on farms around horses and developing a love for mechanical things. Logan met Rebecca in November of 2003 on Yahoo Instant Messenger and went on their first date on Christmas of that year. They were married in 2004 and resided in San Marcos, TX before relocating back to Lewisburg, TN, which they have called home since 2011.

Logan was a skilled and dedicated ASC Certified Mechanic and spent his entire life as a “shake and rattle” man, knowing what was often wrong with a car before even evaluating it. He loved classic cars and had a strong affinity for the Volkswagen Beetle, owning his own since he was a small child. He adored all forms of classic entertainment, science fiction and video games. He and Rebecca spent much time meeting many of his heroes over the years and collecting memorabilia for his favorites, especially Star Trek. A prolific gamer, he developed a community of friends across the world with whom he would play games and compete. He spent much of his gaming time online with his closest gaming ally, his brother Justin.

Logan had a gentle, soft, tenor singing voice that you could often hear in a hum or gentle song – usually a hymn or John Denver song. That same voice greeted many with rich and intricate stories illustrative of his depth of knowledge in the things he loved and the many experiences and adventures he went on over the years. He was a member of the Church Street Church of Christ in Lewisburg, TN.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Rebecca Lynn Redmond Smith, his father David Smith of Iowa, mother, Melanie Johnson and brother Justin Smith of Columbia, TN, father and mother-in-law Bob and Barbara Redmond of Lewisburg, TN and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Abby Redmond and his two nephews, Henry and Simon of Atlanta, GA.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 5 pm- 7 pm at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. A Celebration of Logan’s life will be held on Thursday,  July 20, 2023 at 2 pm at Church Street Church of Christ. Visitation at the church will be from 1 pm until time of service.
