Lucelia (Blackwood) Reed

Lucelia Douglas Blackwood Reed, 101 years of age, passed on to be with Jesus on Saturday, September 23, 2023. 

Lucelia was born September 3, 1922 to Mary Franklin Blackwood and William Hugh Blackwood in Nashville, TN. At 6 months her family moved to the Glendale area in Atlanta, GA. When she was 10 years old they moved back to East Nashville. She graduated from Isaac Litton High School in 1940. She married Red Preslar in 1947, but he passed after only 1.5 years due to illness. She started working at 3rd National Bank at 20 years old in the Transit Department and then transferred 2 years later to Teller in 1944 and worked at that position for almost 10 years. During that time, she married John Shelby Reed Jr. on December 31, 1949. They went on to have two children, John Shelby Reed III, (Cindy) and Mary Grace Reed King (Vance, deceased). They lived in the Madison, TN area and she briefly worked at Donald Construction followed by Truck City Truckstop. She then took a few years off and was a care partner to John who had become ill. After John passed, she started working at United Methodist Publishing House and continued to work there until her retirement at age 62. 

She loved people and was a true servant of Jesus. She was a member of City Road Methodist Church for 10 years. She lived in the Nashville area until she relocated to Rockvale in 2003. She has been a member of Mt Pleasant Baptist Church for 15 years and was baptized at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church by her son-in-law on March 03, 2003. She taught Sunday School when she was 88 years old and sang in the choir since she was 16 years old. She loved to do cross-stitch and needlepoint, along with crochet work. She was active in FCE and Garden club. She truly loved and spoiled her dogs, Jake and Sadie. 

She is survived by her children, 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, along with a host of friends who cherished her. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023 from 2pm - 4pm at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 8151 Hant Hollow Rd., Rockvale, TN. A Celebration of Life Service will follow the visitation at 4pm. Burial will be at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
