Martha N. Nelms

Mrs. Martha N. Nelms, age 91, of College Grove, Tennessee, died Thursday, May 30, 2019 in Franklin, Tennessee. Mrs. Nelms was born in Memphis, Tennessee and retired, after many years of service as an administrative assistant, from the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education.

Martha was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her family. Her love of people gifted her with an abundance of friends that loved her immensely. Her gentle and loving nature will be missed by many. Mrs. Nelms was a long time member of the College Grove United Methodist Church where the Church Food Pantry was very dear to her heart. She was also an active member of the College Grove Senior Citizens Center and the College Grove Red Hat Club.

Mrs. Nelms is survived her daughter, Cindy Ann Dill, Franklin, TN; daughter-in-law, Becky Nelms, College Grove, TN; grandchildren, Dawn Dill (Jimmy Barnett), Robert (Amanda) Nelms, Jesse (Megan) Nelms; great grandchildren, Kayrin (Cody) Duke, Riley Nelms, Peyton Nelms, Savannah Nelms, Allie Mae Nelms; great great grandchildren, Adley Rae Duke, Walker Duke; special sisters-in-law, Louise Nelms, Evelyn Nelson, Betty Nelms; brother-in-law, Lewis Nelms; three nephews, Dennis Nelson, Tim Nelson, Randy Nelms.

Mrs. Nelms was preceded in death by her husband, James Thurman Nelms, who died in 2007; her parents, Elva Schenzel and Jessie Hollis Nelson; a son, Bob Nelms; brother, Harold Nelson and son-in-law, Mike Dill.

Family members will receive friends on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Coy and Rev. Dustin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Old Orchard Cemetery in Petersburg, TN.

Robert Nelms, Jesse Nelms, Riley Nelms, Cody Duke, Jimmy Barnett and Richard Kelton will serve as active pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Brooks, Grady Osborne and Randy Nelms.
