Mary Ellen Taylor Loyd, age 91, a lifelong resident of Rutherford County, Eagleville, TN achieved her ultimate goal, going home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday evening, September 17, 2023. She was surrounded by her family whom she loved and devoted her entire life of caring for. She was born December 31, 1931 in Eagleville, TN in a two-room house located on the family farm in southwest Rutherford County. Mary Ellen was the daughter of Fred and Mae Taylor who preceded her in death, along with her beloved husband Spencer LaFayette Loyd. Sister Bithie Sue King. During her childhood she was raised on the family farm, taking care of farm animals and learning to do what she loved most, cooking. She graduated from Eagleville High School in 1949 and was valedictorian of her class. She excelled in basketball and was offered a scholarship at a college in Nashville, TN. Soon after graduating from high school, she met the love of her life Spencer Loyd, son of Walter and Adel Loyd of Christiana. They were married October 21, 1950. After marriage, she moved to Columbia, SC where Spencer was serving in the United States Army. After Army service they moved back to Eagleville where she began and ended her homemaking career. After Spencer’s retirement from State Farm Insurance Company, they both worked at Dehoff’s Christian Book store in Murfreesboro until 2010. During her married life, she attended the Eagleville church of Christ, where she taught bible classes and worked in the church. She provided spiritual and other guidance to her children and grandchildren and loved them all unconditionally.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael Taylor (Jeanna) Loyd, Eagleville TN, Mendel Bennett Loyd, Eagleville, TN; six grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Loyd Jr, Jessica Loyd-Wright (Jahez), Trevor & Taylor Goodson, Katarina Loyd and Aliyah Loyd; eight great grandchildren, Malachi Taylor, Mary Grace Taylor, Layla McPherson, Mason Loyd, Maddy Adcock, Mikayla Wright, Knox Wright and Jaxon Loyd; brother-in-law William L. King, Eagleville, nieces Lanae Turner, Tabitha (Tim) Persh, nephew Dwight (Julie) King, four great nephews and one great niece.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, September 20, 2023 beginning at 4 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Family members will also receive friends on Thursday, September 21, 2023 beginning at 9:00.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10:00, Lawrence Funeral Home with Daryl Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Bennett Cemetery on MT Vernon Rd near Eagleville, TN. Pallbearers will be Jahez Salahuddin, Michael Loyd Jr, Malachi Taylor, Dwight King, Trevor Goodson, Mason Loyd
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the church of Christ at Eagleville.
