Mr. Norman Wade Henson, age 82, of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, died Friday, July 17, 2015 in Lewisburg, Tennessee. Mr. Henson was born in Marshall County and was a son of the late Robert Claude Henson and Vera Kareen Wilson Baxter. He was a graduate of Marshall County High School and later attended and received his bachelor’s degree from Carson-Newman College. He then entered the armed forces serving his country in the United States Army. Following his time in service, he received his master’s degree in education from Middle Tennessee State University and began his teaching and coaching career in Chapel Hill. Later, he transferred to Marshall County High School. Mr. Henson then transferred back to Forrest School where, in addition to teaching and coaching, later was appointed as principal of Forrest School. He left the field of education to become head of Human Resources for Cosmolab, Inc., Lewisburg, TN, a position he held until his retirement in 1996. After retirement he was employed part-time with Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill and loved playing golf with his many friends. Mr. Henson was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Chapel Hill where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was very active in civic organizations including a member of the Chapel Hill Lions Club, where he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, the highest award honoring a Lions Club member, a member of the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce, Chapel Hill Industrial Board, and the Marshall County Library Board. Mr. Henson was named as the Chapel Hill Citizen of the Year in 2003.
Mr. Henson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Margaret McCormack Henson, Chapel Hill, TN; children, Jimmy (Cindy) Henson, Chapel Hill, TN, Jennifer Lynn (Chris) Lynch, Chapel Hill, TN; brother, Allen Henson, Lebanon, TN; sister, Annelle Taylor, Belfast, TN; grandchildren, Jessica Henson (Dan) Alexander, Colin W. (Jade) Henson, Rachel B. Henson, Mary Elise Lynch, Ty Allen Lynch; great grandchildren, Abi Alexander, Miles Alexander; several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks and appreciation to caregivers, Janet Dorman, DeAnna Woodward, Crystle Cole, Margie Cheek, and the nursing and therapy staff of NHC Lewisburg. Family members will receive friends on Sunday, July 19, 2015 from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 20, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Smyrna Baptist Church in Chapel Hill with Rev. Kevin Robinson and Rev. Tim McGehee officiating. Family members will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill. Colin Henson, Corey Bishop, Mike Bishop, Justin Lakins, Dan Alexander and Beau Woodis will serve as active pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons, both active and inactive, of Smyrna Baptist Church, members of Adult IV Sunday School Class of Smyrna Baptist Church, Coffee Club Members of First State Bank and various friends and acquaintances.
