Rev. Scott Yates

Rev. George Scott Yates, III, age 73, of Columbia, TN. passed away January 11, 2024.  Scott was the son of the late George Scott and Martha Whatley Yates in Atlanta, GA. He attended Memphis Theological Seminary, and was an ordained Cumberland Presbyterian minister for 18 years. Scott was also a Computer Network Engineer and Architect for the last 25 years, specializing in Wireless Networking. He was very active his entire life in amateur radio, including positions in the Navy-Marine Corps Military Affiliated Radio System and the Amateur Radio Emergency System. Summing up his life’s activities, Scott always said that the most important accomplishment of his life was the “Reverend” in front of his name…

Scott is survived by his son, Kevin Montgomery (Monty) Knight; brother, John Yates (Elaine); sister, Elaine Yates Moore (Jerry); and sister-in-law, Sherry Yates (Mark). He is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Knight Yates; son, Philip Knight; and brother, Mark Yates.

A Celebration of Scott’s Life will be held 11:00 AM January 27, 2024 at Columbia First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Columbia, TN.
