Rita Mccord
July 13, 1950 — June 24, 2017
Rita J. (Friend) McCord, age 66, of Eagleville, TN passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 1:39 p.m. in her residence. Born in Miami County on July 13, 1950, Rita was a daughter of the late Roger and Betty Jane (Walker) Friend.
She married Chuck McCord on February 14, 1998 and he survives. Rita is survived by a son Jason (Jenifer) Scharsch of Murfreesboro, TN. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren: Bentley, Domanick, and Leigha Scharsch, Cody and Haley Yarbrough, Jackson Scharsch, and Faith Mansfield; and one great grandson, Fisher Yarbrough. Rita is also survived by two brothers and a sister: Mark (Tiffany) Friend of Troy, OH, David (Sheila) Friend, of Minster, OH, and Debbie (Amy) Friend of Troy, OH. Her extended family includes her step-mother, Darlene Friend of Troy, stepchildren, Gregory and Phillip McCord of Murfreesboro, TN, a step sister, Marcia (Darin) Callen of Troy, OH, step brothers, Mike (Erin) Caldwell of Huber Heights, OH and David Caldwell of Troy, OH, a special friend, Debra Kennerly of Stanley, NC, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Derek Scharsch. Rita was a 1968 graduate of Miami East High School, Casstown, OH and she attended Judson College in Illinois.
She grew up attending Union Baptist Church, Troy, OH, she attended Grace Bible Church in Clark County, OH, and was a 20 year member of Christ Church in Nashville, TN. Rita formerly worked for Friendly’s in their manufacturing facility in Troy. She met her husband Chuck while working for C.B. Ragland in Nashville, TN. She also worked for Franklin Brick in Nashville. Rita volunteered in the 80’s and 90’s raising money for cancer awareness before it was popular to do so. She loved antiques and interior decorating, flowers and gardening and was an accomplished seamstress.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Union Baptist Church, 1833 Peterson Road, Troy, OH 45373 with Reverend Dale Adkins presiding. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main Street, Fletcher, OH 45326.
