Mr. Robert “Bob” Werthner, age 87, of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, died Tuesday, May 26, 2020 in Chapel Hill. Mr. Werthner was born in Manhattan, New York and was a son of the late Edward and Anna Schmaltz Werthner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Raymond Werthner.

Mr. Werthner served his Country in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1955. After being discharged from the Navy, he worked as a plumber, a trade he continued until his retirement as a master plumber journeyman. After retirement, he and his wife Ruth, moved to Chapel Hill, Tennessee where he joined and was an integral part of Smyrna Baptist Church in Chapel Hill.

Mr. Werthner is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ruth Werthner, Chapel Hill, TN; daughters, Connie Macy, Chapel Hill, TN, Deborah Stulz, Christine Martinek, Judy Gohlsen, Patricia Holowzak and Laura Desalvo, all of Long Island, NY, Catherine Berger, Maryland, Cynthia Ivy, North Carolina, Anita Marivigla, Ohio; sons, Russell Werthner, Robert Werthner, Jr. and Cary Sumners, all of Long Island, NY, Danny Werthner, Biddeford, ME, Craig Adams, Port St. Lucie, FL, Christopher Adams, Mooresville, NC.; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Graveside services, with military honors, for Mr. Werthner will be conducted on Monday, June 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery,7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville, TN with Rev. Charles Nored officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside services.
