Mrs. Sarah Frances Case Harris, age 93, of the Holts Corner Community of Marshall County, died Friday, July 11, 2014 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Mrs. Harris was born in Prospect, Tennessee and was a daughter of Grover Cleveland and Betsie Pully Case. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Ferguson Harris, her brother, John I. Case and grandson, Christopher Dean Harris.
Mrs. Harris is survived by two sons, Dr. Dennis Gregory Harris (Pam), Chapel Hill, TN, Dr. Charles Edward Harris (Peggy), Valley, AL; two granddaughters, Dr. Kerri Lynn Teague (Josh) and Kimberly Lee Brown (Justin), both of Valley, AL; five great grandchildren; a sister, Edith Case, Nashville, TN; nieces and nephews.
She was a direct descendant of Cary Gilbert, early settler of Giles County, TN. Mrs. Harris was also a granddaughter of Confederate Veteran John Henderson Case and Isaac Vinson Pully. Mrs. Harris was twice a valedictorian, in 1938 at Prospect High School and again in 1940 at Martin Junior College in Pulaski, TN where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She was also a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. She was a teacher and educator for 38 years having taught at Howard High School in Nashville, TN, Jones Valley High School in Birmingham, AL, and Forrest Elementary and High School in Chapel Hill, TN. She was a member of all the education associations in Marshall County, State of Tennessee and National Education Associations. Mrs. Harris was of the Methodist Faith.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Tom Holland officiating. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
