Shirley Smotherman

Mrs. Shirley McKay Smotherman, age 87, of the Cedar Grove Community of Bedford County, died Friday, September 19, 2014 in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Mrs. Smotherman was born in London, Ontario, Canada and was a daughter of the late William and Nellie Anne Mills McKay. She was a registered nurse and, for many years, served as a nurse for Easter Seals. She also loved being a wife and mother and caring for her family. Mrs. Smotherman was a member of the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin William Smotherman, who died in 2008, and a sister, Wilma McKay.

Mrs. Smotherman is survived by two daughters, Sharon Smotherman, Cedar Grove Community, Kendra Smotherman, Townsend, TN; son William “Bill” Smotherman, Shelbyville, TN; brother, Fredrick McKay, Hendersonville, NC.

Family members will receive friends on Monday, September 22, 2014 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
