Mr. Thomas H “Tommy” Lawrence III, age 72, of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, formerly of Memphis, Tennessee, died Thursday evening, March 19, 2020 in Franklin, Tennessee. Mr. Lawrence was born in Davidson County and was a son of the late Lillian Lewis and Thomas H. Lawrence Jr.
Mr. Lawrence was a graduate of Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, TN, received a Bachelor’s Degree from Tennessee Tech, Cookeville, TN, received his Bachelors in Medical Technology from the University of Tennessee at Memphis, earned his Masters Degree in Invertebrate Zoology from the University of Memphis and a Master Degree in finance from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee.
Having moved back to Chapel Hill after the death of his mother, Mr. Lawrence became very active in the Chapel Hill Community. He was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, the Chapel Hill Lions Club, and was presently serving as an alderman for the Town of Chapel Hill, a position he had held for many years.
Mr. Lawrence was a very active Mason both in Memphis and in Chapel Hill. He was Past Master of Park Avenue Lodge # 362, a member of Al Chymia Shrine Unit, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, member of the Doric Lodge and York Rite, all in Memphis. After moving to Chapel Hill, he became a member and Past Master of Chapel Hill Masonic Lodge # 160.
He is survived by his children, Thomas H “Tom” (April) Lawrence, IV, Hernando, MS, Kevin Wooten Lawrence, Cordova, TN, Nathan Lewis (Christina) Lawrence, Raymond, MS and Michelle Lawrence (Will) Cofer, Ringgold, GA; grandchildren, Lexie, Izabelle, Noah, Grace, Liam and Lily.
Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, March 23, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill with Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery. In light of our present health crisis, there will be no visitation prior to graveside services and family members certainly want you to consider your health. Please know that online tributes thru the funeral home website are equally appreciated.
