Mr. Velda “Red” Flener, age 81, of the Wheel comunity of Bedford Co., died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015.  A native of  Morgantown, KY, Mr. Flener was a son of the late Hillory and Enola Flener. He was a retired brick mason and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Mae Jones Flener, a son, Michael Ray Flener, a brother, Curtis Flener, 2 sisters, Margarette Flener Whitaker and Freda Flener Lipka.

Survived by a brother, Kenneth Flener of Bloomington, IL; a sister, Annetta Flener Parker of Loves Park, IL; 1 grandson, Michael Flener; 1 granddaughter, Amity Beckenbach;  3 great grandchildren, Ethan, Laura Ann and Megan Mealer; a niece, Linda Jones Haislip; a nephew, Paul Jones, Sr; 2 special and devoted friends, Patsy Hix and Chady Johns.

Mr. Flener was proud of his heritage of Kentucky and Tennessee and loved wearing his bib overalls with his red handkerchief in his back pocket.  He loved seeing his friends at the coffee shop and telling stories. Velda loved life and was never afraid of hard work and he played just as hard. Velda will be missed by all.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec.12, 2015 from 2pm – 4:30pm at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 4:30pm Saturday from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mackinaw, IL at a later date.
