Mr. Walter Lee Martin, age 60, of Unionville, Tennessee, a lifelong resident of Bedford County, died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family and numerous friends. He was the son of the late Walter Martin and the late Billie Tompkins Martin. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Maryllian Martin Cochran and Linda Martin Gyurnek.
Mr. Martin is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 42 years, Amy Fulton Martin; his son, Lee (Christy) Martin; daughter, Susan Martin (Bryan) Pearson; and son Jon (Leslie) Martin, all of Unionville. Grandchildren are Alex Martin (Corey) Mullins, Sara Beth, Christopher and Peyton Martin; Savannah, Brayden, Brianna Pearson, Brandon Pearson-Alford; Hadley Kate and Bella Reese Martin. Great-grandchildren are Addison and Cayden Mullins; and mother–in-law, Willene Bullock Fulton. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Tommy Armstrong, who was the brother Walter never had; and finally, by a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Walter retired after 22 years as a Sears appliance repair service technician, and operated Martin’s Appliance Repair Service since 1996. He resided on his family farm in Unionville where he lovingly cared for his cows and chickens; but his greatest love was spending time on the farm with his grandchildren and going to the Country Diner in Chapel Hill daily for fellowship with friends. Walter was a friend to many as shown by the approximately 500 plus friends and family members who visited him during his last days. His Christian faith will be remembered by all he touched.
He was a graduate of Community High School, Class of 1971, where he excelled in basketball. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Community Alumni Association in care of Renee Yoes, 985 Longview Road, Shelbyville, Tennessee 37160.
