Mr. William “Bill” Coppings, age 80, of Chapel Hill, TN, died on February 26, 2019, in Murfreesboro, TN.
Mr. Coppings was born September 25, 1938, in Orchard Park (Buffalo, NY) to his late parents Yuella Woodard Coppings and Nelson Coppings.
Mr. Coppings graduated from Cattaragus High School in New York and later received his associates degree to become a registered nurse from Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy where he ranked at 2nd Class Radarman in Norfolk, VA, on the USS Pocono during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Mr. Coppings was also a member of the Lone Sailor Memorial in Washington, DC, a life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2 in Niagara Falls, NY and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 22 in Columbia, TN, where he served as a chaplain while in the organization. He was also an active member in the Knights of Columbus Council #7447 in Columbia, TN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Donald Coppings; sister-in-law, Susan; and nephew, Seth Morris, who passed in the 9/11 conflict.
Mr. Coppings is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathy Coppings, Chapel Hill, TN; children, Annette, Elaine, and Kenneth; 2 grandsons, Robert and Nicholas Rising; brothers, Robert (Connie) Coppings and Richard (Yolanda) Coppings; in-laws, Barbara and John Morris; 5 nephews, 2 nieces, 12 great nephews and nieces, and 3 great great nephews.
A Catholic Mass will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019, at 1:00pm at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Columbia, TN, with Father Tom Weise officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia, TN.
