William "Bill" Roberts

Mr. William “Bill” B. Roberts, age 83, of Chapel Hill, TN, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022. Born in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late E. Stuart Roberts and Marjorie Wardle Roberts.

Bill moved to Bellevue, OH when he was 10 years old. Together, with his brother Ed and father Stu, he enjoyed fishing days on Lake Erie and loved playing football for Bellevue High School. Bill later purchased Spiralcool Corporation, in Bellevue, from his father. He was driven to become an attorney since he was a young boy and turned down the opportunity to run the local butcher shop he worked at since he was 15 and went on to Michigan State University for undergrad, where he met Cathy, his future wife, and then University of Michigan for his law degree, which he completed in two years. As newlyweds with their first child, they arrived in St. Louis to begin his promising law career with Thompson & Mitchell. He then had a stint at Monsanto as the Corporate Division Counsel before joining Chromalloy American, a Fortune 250 company, where he rose to Executive Vice President/General Counsel & Secretary in charge of mergers, acquisitions and antitrust. He finished out his career in private practice with offices in Chesterfield, MO and Naples, FL, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, advising professional athletes, and business brokerage. He was a member of the Missouri and Florida Bar Associations and also the recipient of a degree in Chinese Law from the University of East Asia, Macau. Bill and Cathy retired to Lee’s Summit, MO, to be near the grandsons and then to Chapel Hill, TN, to be near their daughter, Katrina. He had a passion for photography, boating and football. He was also an amazing handyman doing most of his own home repairs and was the grill master long before BBQ became a sport. Bill was an avid youth coach for his sons, both in baseball and basketball as well as enjoying many golf rounds with them. He and Cathy had been married for 60 years and loved travel with extended trips to England, Australia, Hawaii and the Caribbean. In 2013, Bill was inducted into the Bellevue High School Halls of Excellence for his successful professional career.

Bill is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Cathy Roberts of Chapel Hill, TN; 2 sons, Bradford (Sheila) Roberts of Ft. Smith, AR, Brent (Heather) Roberts of Stilwell, KS; a daughter, Katrina (Richard) Howard of Leipers Fork, TN; a brother, Ed (Janet) Roberts of Lake Placid, FL; 4 grandsons, Jake, Jackson, Mitchell and Hayden Roberts.
